Picture waking up to the peaceful sounds of the flowing river and tropical rainforest as you begin your day with sun salutations as the morning sun begins to rise above the horizon.
For one weekend, Hip and Healthy invited people to leave the chaos of modern life to detoxify, rejuvenate and regain a state of balance whilst connecting with nature on Brunei’s first wellness retreat.
The retreat was set in Sumbiling Eco Village, which promotes sustainability, not only environmentally but culturally, socially and economically. The village is nestled amidst the pristine and unspoiled rainforest of Temburong, tucked away in an idyllic corner of Sumbiling Lama, an Iban village, fronting an upstream section of Temburong River.
There was no 3G or wifi here so guests effectively logged off on this digital detox, replacing endless, mindless scrolling with mindful connection with the great outdoors.
The retreat encouraged guests to immerse themselves in nature and practice yoga, meditation and mindfulness. Bringing mindfulness to the experience from every angle elevated their experience.
The lodgings varied from tents , to basic rooms and more upmarket to riverside glamping.
Places started at $195 and included transfers, accommodation, meals and activities such as 2 daily yoga sessions, guided meditation, activities such as river tubing and river rafting, foraging for wild vegetables with a local villager and a workshop making nature mandalas.
