Eco Ponies Garden to host cooking competition
ECO Ponies Garden in collaboration with Astera Consultant, will be hosting “Eko Kampung Cuisine 2016”, a recipe competition with the theme of cooking with fruits and flowers on August 27 at Eco Ponies Garden in Kg Bang Nukat, Lamunin Tutong.
The competition will begin from 9am until 2pm. It requires participants to create recipes based on fruits and flowers.
The competition will have three categories, namely, Soup and Salads, Main Dish as well as Dessert and Drinks. Apart from prizes for the winners of each category, there will also be consolation prizes.
All winners will be featured in the iCookAsia Brunei website — a website dedicated to promoting local Brunei cuisine which aims to be a hub for chefs, cooks, Youtubers and bloggers from all around the country — which will also be launched during the event, as well as an upcoming new cookbook entitled “Cooking with fruits and flowers” by Astera Consultant which will be published by September next year.
According to one of the organisers, Siti Kaprawi from Astera Consultant, the objective of the event is to create awareness of cooking with edible flowers and to encourage foodies and budding chefs to try out their hand at creating and trying out such recipes.
At the same time they are holding the event in support of efforts of the Lamunin Village Consultative Council in diversifying its efforts to improve the economy of its villagers and the country in general as well as promote Brunei as a “food tourism” destination.
During the event, there will also be stalls by food vendors, a handicraft exhibition and an exhibition of the village’s products such as Madu Kelulut and “Kueh Kering”.
There will also be a gallery entitled “Eko Brunei” which will showcase tourism products from the Eko Brunei community, a project done by Eco Ponies in collaboration with local tour operators and web developer Andreas Koztke from Germany, and a cooking demo by Dr Shahrim Karim, an award winning Associate Professor from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, University Putra Malaysia.
Dr Shahrim is also known for travelling the world to promote Malaysian food and has also appeared as the guest jury on Master Chef Malaysia as well as various television programmes in Malaysia and internationally.
